Turnkey Linux is a virtual appliance library that integrates and polishes the very best open source software into ready to use solutions. Each virtual appliance is optimized for ease of use and can be deployed in just a few minutes on bare metal, a virtual machine and in the cloud.
We believe everything that can be easy, should be easy.
Packaging a solution as a virtual appliance can be incredibly useful because it allows you to leverage guru integration skills to build ready to use systems (I.e., turn key solutions) that just work out of the box with little to no setup.
Unlike with traditional software, you don't have to worry about complex OS compatibility issues, library dependencies or undesirable interactions with other applications because a virtual appliance is a self contained unit that runs directly on top of hardware or inside a virtual machine.
This is exciting because there is a great deal of untapped potential in the open source world. Ubuntu and Debian, the largest Linux distributions have over 25,000 packages in their repositories, but it still takes considerable skill and effort to cherry pick the right components and glue them together into a compelling solution that is more than just the sum of its parts.
If we can capture the value of each pre-integrated solution in a well engineered, thoroughly tested virtual appliance then this should drive open source adoption rates higher and empower experts and non-experts alike to do more.
